LGBT Chamber and Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Enter into an Official Partnership
Members of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NAHCC) will now have a new resource for collaboration and growth. The NAHCC and the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NLGBTCC) have agreed to sign an inter-chamber agreement that will provide business owners from both memberships with enhanced resources to help them with their business development efforts.
The purpose of this agreement is to create and establish a working relationship between the NAHCC and the NLGBTCC that will enhance the availability and delivery of business support services and simultaneously promote economic development and excellence in the greater Nashville area and Middle Tennessee region.
The NAHCC and the NLGBTCC have the same core mission to advocate, promote and facilitate the success of minority owned and small businesses throughout the Nashville area and the state of Tennessee. Both organizations accomplish this by providing networking opportunities, educational activities and technical assistance; monitoring legislation, policies and programs; and working closely within our communities. Accordingly, the NAHCC and the NLGBTCC have agreed that it is in our mutual best interests to develop a cooperative agreement with the following commitments:
- Increase the certification of minority owned businesses in our memberships.
- Create and Collaborate in Financial Literacy and Access to Capital programs for our members.
- Develop Civil Engagement Strategies to increase citizenship and voter registration.
The NAHCC-NLGBTCC agreement was signed on Thursday, October 6, 2016, during the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's program 'Honoring Civil Rights and Hispanic Influence on American History' at the offices of the NAHCC's legal counsel immigration and civil rights attorney Elliott Ozment.
The event and talk, part of the NAHCC's month-long Hispanic Heritage Month program, celebrated advancements in social justice and assessed the road ahead for immigrants and their communities.
Guest speakers included Reverend Inman E. Otey who was part of a nonviolent direct action campaign to end racial segregation at lunch counters in downtown Nashville back in the 60's, former metro council member Walter Hunt; Marilyn Robinson, Executive Director of the Nashville Minority Business Center; and Carolyn Waller, President & CEO of the Black Chamber of Commerce.
The signing of this cooperative agreement with the NLGBTCC is part of the NAHCC's strategic plan that included a strong economic and workforce development component given the exponential population growth of the region. The NAHCC continues extending its reach and influence by consolidating strategic partnerships. Earlier this year in March it signed a similar partnership agreement with the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce.
